VODCAST Melbourne Road Vlogging 08/08/2005

Sorry webcam again today folks! Boy more war driving today with Net Stumbler. Did you know that the Burnley Tunnel in Melbourne has an open WiFi hotspot in it? And why do so many of the Melbourne Citylink gantry points have open wifi networks near them? I am continually amazed at the amount of businesses and homes that don't secure their wireless networks. Give me Wimax now! At least that way it should minimise the likelihood of people "accidentally"  logging on to private networks.

Unfair Dismissal Laws

Unfair Dismissal Laws

I am absolutely amazed that if you Google the phrase unfair dismissal laws the ACTU does not come up on the first page of results. For non Aussie visitors there is a massive debate in Australia at the moment on proposed new industrial relations laws that will see businesses with less that 100 employees become exempt from our unfair dismissal laws. Regardless of what side of the debate you are on I am stunned that neither side has tried to capture this search phrase on the net.

Personally I did not vote for either major political part at our last federal election but quite frankly I think it is pretty stupid to say that the unfair dismissal laws are hurting small business. Just ask my mate Cam, we've both lost count of how many times I've hired and fired him!. Basically the way it stands with an employer at the moment is if you want to sack someone you must give them two written warnings and then the third time get rid of them. But most businesses I know will get around this anyway by simply making the position redundant.

There has been a massive swing in the polls against John Howard (that's the guy that looks like Mr Garrison from South Park) because of these proposed changes. As far as I am concerned he went to the  federal election with these changes on the table and the Australian people voted him in, so there is no point in whinging now. He told you he was going to do it!

What little I have heard about the proposed changes to the industrial relations laws I find quite disturbing, however maybe this will teach the Australian  electorate that they need to find out more about what they are voting for rather than just what they hear on the 6 o'clock commercial TV news.

In the meantime it will be interesting if this article gets picked up by the search engines ;-)

Collingwood snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - GO ROOS!

Collingwood snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - GO ROOS! North Melbourne Kangaroos !

Oh what a match. I had been watching another Roos  fan and his team battle against the poms only 11 hours earlier. Ricky Ponting Captain of the Australian Cricket team and passionate Roos fan had lead his side into a hopeful position in the second Ashes test.  However he would have been disappointed with his (and mine :-()! ) Aussie Rules Football team the North Melbourne Kangaroos effort against Eddie Maguire's lack lustre, wannabe, pretentious 'pies. Even though we won in the last 10 seconds of the match coming from 4 goals down in the last five minutes of the game there was a certain assumption that the game was ours before we had won it. To the pies credit they came out strong without their whingy forward Tarrant suspended for striking. At half time the scores were level and then they out kicked us in the third. Then again, despite a bunch of skill errors, we came back in the dying moments of the game. Sorry no video yet I'll take  a cam next week when we play the saints. Big Match! CAR'N THE ROOS! GO ROOBOYS! CAR"N THE KANGAAAAAAS!
